You will love this easy air fryer chicken fajitas recipe. It’s such an easy way to get dinner on the table quickly on a busy weeknight as the air fryer does all the work once you spend a few minutes prepping the ingredients. This recipe is a breeze and so flavorful that your family will be asking for seconds. It’s so convenient and easy to make with the air fryer as you don’t have to break out a sheet pan and the air fryer is dishwasher friendly.

Top them with your favorite toppings, and you’ll have a restaurant-quality meal ready in no time. Try my homemade pico de gallo, guacamole, or mango salsa for some delicious topping ideas!

Key Ingredients You Need

Ingredients needed to make air fryer chicken fajitas.
  • Chicken — I use boneless skinless breasts, but you are welcome to make this with a different cut of chicken.
  • Bell peppers — Fajitas aren’t complete without bell peppers. I use a mix of red, yellow, and green bell peppers, but you can stick with just one color if you prefer. Red bell peppers are sweeter compared to green bell peppers.
  • Seasoning — I use a combination of chili powder, paprika, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas

Step 1: In a small bowl, add the spices together and mix with a small fork to make the fajita seasoning.

Step 2: Slice the bell peppers into even pieces.

Step 3: Add the chicken, onions, and bell pepper to a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and then toss until coated. Add the seasoning and then toss again until everything is evenly coated.

Step 4: Add the seasoned chicken, onion, and bell pepper to the air fryer basket.

Step 5: Cook at 350F for 16 to 20 minutes, or until all the chicken pieces have cooked through. Remove the basket and toss halfway through the cooking time, at about 9 minutes.

Step 6: Serve the fajitas in tortillas and garnish with sour cream, chopped cilantro, and guacamole.

Tips For This Recipe

  • If you don’t have the mix of spices but have fajita seasoning, you can swap that in instead.
  • Make sure to cut the chicken as evenly as possible, so they cook evenly in the air fryer.
  • It’s alright for some overlap in the air fryer basket, however, try to avoid excessive overlap (such as double layering) so the chicken fajitas can brown evenly.
  • You can slice the onions, bell peppers, and chicken ahead of time and store them in the fridge for up to 3 days for busy weeknights.
  • If you want to add some lime to brighten the flavor, add it after the chicken fajitas come out of the air fryer and not before.
  • Don’t feel limited to tortillas! These chicken fajitas make a great rice bowl or a salad as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

What other cuts of chicken could I use?

Chicken thighs and chicken tenderloins are great options if you don’t have chicken breasts. The cook time will increase by a few minutes if you use chicken thighs.

Are fajitas served with flour or corn tortillas?

Fajitas are traditionally served with flour tortillas but feel free to use whichever you prefer or have on hand!

How do I store and reheat leftovers?

Transfer the chicken fajitas out of the air fryer and allow to cool completely, then store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. To reheat, place the fajitas back in the air fryer and heat for 5 minutes at 350F or until warmed through.

How do I tell if my chicken is cooked?

Use a cooking thermometer and check the chicken pieces to ensure they have reached 165F. You could also just tear open a piece of chicken to check the meat is white throughout and no longer pink.
