Whenever we need a quick and easy side dish, I always turn to this recipe. The green beans always come out crisp but tender, and it's such a great way to add a serving of veggies without having to do a lot of work. All you have to do is toss the veggies in some oil, season it, and pop it in the air fryer.
The air fryer is such a convenient appliance as this recipe only takes 8 minutes to cook up. If you’re looking for more ways to use your air fryer, then try my Air Fryer Salmon and Air Fryer Bacon!
Key Ingredients You Need
- Green beans — I find fresh green beans ideal for this recipe. However, if you’d like to use frozen ones, be sure to add a couple of extra minutes to the cooking time. When selecting the green beans at the store, choose bright green and unblemished ones.
- Olive oil — You’re welcome to swap the oil to whatever you have on hand.
How to Make Air Fryer Green Beans
Step 1: Add the olive oil to the green beans.
Step 2: Add in the garlic powder.
Step 3: Season with salt and pepper.
Step 4: Using tongs, toss everything together to combine.
Step 5: Transfer to the air fryer basket.
Step 6: Cook at 370 degrees F for 8 minutes. Toss halfway through cooking time.
Tips For This Recipe
- Before air frying, you should prepare the green beans by washing them. After doing so, you need to pat them dry before adding the olive oil and seasoning. If they have water on them, the olive oil won’t coat the beans very well.
- To trim the green beans, I like to line them up on a cutting board and slice off the tops and ends. This way, they’re all a similar length to help them cook evenly, and you save time from having to trim them individually.
- Yellow beans are interchangeable for this recipe.
- Squeeze a lemon wedge over the top to add some brightness to the flavor profile.
- Feel free to double or triple this recipe if you are feeding a crowd. Do so in batches to avoid overcrowding as it can lead to them being less crispy as less air can circulate around the beans.
Frequently Asked Questions
The possibilities are endless! There are so many seasoning combinations you can try to keep things interesting. I love tossing them in taco seasonings, Old Bay seasoning, Everything But the Bagel Seasoning, nutritional yeast, cayenne powder, or parmesan cheese to change things up. I also like adding in some breadcrumbs or adding sliced almonds to them to give the dish an extra crunch.
If you are making this ahead of time or have leftovers, it lasts four days, stored in an airtight container in the fridge. To reheat, add the green beans back to the air fryer for a couple of minutes until warmed through. While you could microwave them, they won’t be as crisp.
This is quite a versatile side dish as it pretty much goes with everything. Some of my favorite mains to serve alongside this recipe are my Carne Asada, Sweet and Sour Shrimp, Air Fryer Chicken Tenders, and Hawaiian Chicken Skewers.
