When fresh peaches are available, you can find me by the grill grilling peaches! They are such a delightful way to enjoy peaches, and when brushed with butter, sugar, and cinnamon and then grilled, you enhance the flavors so much!
When grilled, the peaches soften and caramelize, making them even sweeter and juicier. You won’t be able to get enough of them. Enjoy them on their own or with a scoop of ice cream. They’re so simple to make, grill up in minutes, and only require a few simple ingredients. Want another easy dessert? Key Ingredients You Need
- Peaches — The peaches need to be ripe before you grill them. To tell if they’re ripe, squeeze them and see if they give in. If the peaches are very firm, they’re not ready for grilling. You can also tell if the peaches are ripe by sniffing them. Ripe peaches often have a light, sweet fragrant peach scent. I recommend freestone peaches as you can easily remove the pits compared to clingstone peaches.
- Butter — I like using unsalted butter so that the sweet peach flavor can shine through.
- Sugar — You can use any sugar you prefer. I use natural cane sugar, but if you’d like more caramel notes, you can use brown sugar.
- Cinnamon — A pinch of cinnamon adds a sweet, earthy taste that compliments the sweetness of the peaches.
How to Make Grilled Peaches
Step 1: Cut the peaches and remove the pits.
Step 2: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and cinnamon.
Step 3: Brush the butter mixture onto the peaches and set aside.
Step 4: Heat your grill or grill pan to medium heat and brush with vegetable oil. Place the peaches cut-side down.
Step 5: Grill the peaches until they have turned golden brown and cooked through, about 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 6: Garnish with fresh chopped mint leaves, and serve immediately.
Tips For This Recipe
- Buy your peaches ahead of time! It can be tricky to find perfectly ripe peaches at the store, so you may need a few days for the peaches to ripen at home. Similar to avocados, allow the peaches to ripen on the counter and transfer them to the fridge once they’re ripe to slow down the ripening process.
- Avoid using overripe peaches. The more ripe the peaches are, the more sugar there is, leading to the peaches burning quickly. They’re also too tender and soft to take the grill’s heat.
- I usually leave the skins on the peaches to help them keep their shape as they grill and help keep them from sticking to the grill.
- Make sure to brush the grill with oil before adding the peaches. Brushing the grill will help protect the flesh and ensure that the peaches don’t stick to your grill and tear when you try to lift them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Cinnamon adds a deliciously warm and cozy flavor. Ground nutmeg or ginger make for a great addition as well.
If you use freestone peaches, the pits should pop right out! Freestone peaches tend to be more readily available in the late summer. If you only have clingstone peaches, you can use a spoon or melon baller to help remove the pits.
While these grilled peaches are best served hot, leftovers are also delicious. You can keep the leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days. You can enjoy them cold or reheat them in the microwave.
